DECEMBER MEETING GIFT EXCHANGE
Calder Quilters enjoyed their December Meeting ..mince pies and gift exchanges are always a delight. The Annual Show and Tell of quilts and Christmas decorations was stunning ..it was a true reflection of members skills. The members also brought their quilts that had been made for local charities. These quilts have been delivered to Lighthouse ( aimed at babies and children)and Homeinstead ( the elderly).
The members of the group send Seasons Greetings to who attend the wonderful MJCentre.

HIDDEN HISTORY: Rediscovering our lost suffragettes.
Jennie Kiff is a professional archivist and heritage consultant based in Bradford. Her PhD research has rediscovered hundreds of women who are missing from the histories of the suffragette movement. Their stories shed new light on the suffragette campaign in the West Riding and show how ordinary women changed the course of our history.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF PUNISHMENT AND PUBLIC HUMILIATION by Roger Logue.
Roger is a member of, and indeed Chairman in various History Societies.
His talk looks at the infinite reasons behind, and history of, the various forms of punishment and public humiliation. It explains and gives examples from various parts of the world and discusses the mildest to the most severe forms of punishment. The catalyst for researching the subject was the daily sight of the village stocks opposite his home in Marsden.
H & C members £4.00, non-members £5.00, includes refreshments. All welcome. Enquiries 07779 233048
On Saturday 31st August Calder Quilters went on their Annual Trip. This year The Great Northern Quilt Show was held at Doncaster Racecourse. After a straightforward journey the members alighted the coach to a day of viewing quilts, browsing useful sewing items, purchasing needed fabric ,reconsidering the next Project and coffee…with the odd cake.
The added bonus this year was hunting down and finding the seven quilts exhibited by our own members. They included titles such as “ Love is a Work of Heart “ and “Pennies from Heaven”.
An enjoyable day all round….we will be planning next year’s trip ….for our members and their friends .
